The history
One Five Six is a historically significant Grade II listed building that used to be a thriving part of Birmingham's manufacturing industry. According to our earliest records dating back to 1889, the building housed several independent workshops engaged in the production of electroplating. As time passed, the Jewellery Quarter began to grow, and the building was eventually taken over by independent jewellery workshops.
These workshops were responsible for creating exquisite trophies, medals, and special pieces that were distributed worldwide for prestigious tournaments such as the FIFA World Cup and the Olympics. However, the advent of the recession and the rise of large companies took a toll on the small independent businesses, making it difficult for them to compete in the growing market. As a result, the building began to empty out.
The evolution
After years of neglect and abandonment, the building had become a shell of its former self. However, it caught the attention of developers Hope and Jake, who saw the potential in its unique history and location. Hope regularly travels around the world and was fed up with staying in subpar hotels during her visits to Birmingham. Hope had a vision to create premium apartments that blended the city's industrial heritage with modern design
With their minds set on transforming the derelict building, Hope and Jake began to consult with architects and designers. They knew that the process of renovating and converting the building would require a lot of hard work and attention to detail. They wanted to maintain the building's historical significance and preserve its character while infusing it with modern amenities and aesthetics.
The process of transitioning the derelict building into premium apartments was a long and challenging one, but Hope and Jake remained committed to their vision. They poured their hearts and souls into the project, and their hard work paid off. Today, the building stands as a testament to their perseverance and dedication to creating unique, beautiful spaces that honour Birmingham's industrial history.
